Toast is an award-winning craft beer brewed with fresh surplus bread. All profits go the charity Feedback to end food waste. It’s the best thing since, well, you know … Did you know 44% of the bread produced in the UK is never consumed? Our mission is to change that. We source surplus loaves from bakeries and the heel ends of loaves not used by sandwich makers. The bread replaces one third of the malted barley used to produce beer and we add only malted barley, hops, yeast and water. We contract brew with established brewers, leveraging their expertise to create unique, delicious beers.

We were founded in January 2016 by Tristram Stuart, an author and campaigner on the environmental and social impacts of food waste. Taking inspiration from the Brussels Beer Project’s ‘Babylone’ beer, we’re embarked on using beer as pint-sized solution to a huge global problem. Toast launched with endorsement from chef and restauranteur Jamie Oliver, and has been championed by author and campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. We’ve received global press coverage and won eight beer and sustainability awards. We sell UK-wide, including listings in Waitrose and Tesco, and have expanded internationally with breweries in New York, Cape Town and Rekjavik. Our recipe is open-source so homebrewers can also join the rev-ALE-ution.
